The Blue Pages: Anthropology

CD: Anthropology (2011, Self-released)

by Carolyn Delvalle

Earlier today, I was listening to The Blue Pages 5 Track EP Anthropology which was self-released earlier this year. They are an alternative rock band with electronic influences currently based in Brooklyn, NY. I happen to have seen them live last month at the Mercury Lounge as they were one of the opening acts for Lunic. You can click here to read my review of the show.

The first song I listened to before even going to the show was Run Back Home which was a great choice to open with because it has a lot of good energy & peaks your curiosity as to what else they have to offer. The song itself very catchy and it will quickly get stuck in your head. This is the track that on the EP & performed live led to my getting a Coldplay vibe from them. Now whether they are an actual influence is unknown but I couldn’t shake hearing it.

The Love You Fear is definitely the track to get you dancing as I love the guitar riffs and drums which set the tone from the outset. However as much as I enjoyed it, this is not my favorite track on the EP. That distinction goes to Best I Could which has a softer feel from the other tracks & seems to be one of those end of relationship songs where you gave it your all and it still wasn’t good enough. This is what I took from the song even though everyone takes these things differently. The next time I see them, I will make it a point to ask them what the meaning behind the song is.

The fourth song Keep Me Dreaming has a slower start to it, you know the kind where you have to break out the lighters and start swaying side to side. Seriously though, I think it is actually a sweet, relaxing song & is a perfect change of pace track. The final track Fight For You follows suit with the vibe and feel of Keep Me Dreaming as it is a nice way to end the EP. After it is all said & done, it makes you want to listen to the whole EP all over agin much like I have been doing since I downloaded it.
