Guineafowl
CD: Hello Anxiety (2011, Dew Process)
by Carolyn Delvalle
Guineafowl is an Australian Based acousmatic Electronica band led by lead vocalist Sam Yelham. The band also features Imi Harper on vocals and keyboard, Lachlan Mcqueen on bass, Yarran Hominh on guitar and Nick Meredith on drums.
The EP opens with In Our Circles which happens to be one of my personal favorites. It is an upbeat & catchy infectious song which starts out with what sounds like a soft chant, and continues on with a steady flow of drum beats and guitar riffs. I caught on to something I hadn't noticed before, they mention the name of the EP in the song. Perhaps that is where the inspiration for the title came from. The calmness of the song is not matched when compared to its live performances which is a bit more fast paced.
The second track Little Fingers also happens to be one of my favorites, in fact the first 3 are. Little Fingers is filled with synth, guitars, drums, keyboard and great vocals from Sam and Imi. Botanist (which I have nicknamed "The Clapping Song") is the 3rd favorite of the bunch & contains more solid vocal work & instrument alignments.
Hello Anxiety is a very solid release from start to finish. I highly recommend it to anyone who is into Electro pop especially if you like bringing your spirits up. I really hope to see this band go places in the future as they truly deserve it.
