Dyslexic Postcards: Spare The Altar

CD: Spare the Altar (2011, self-released)

by M. Alberto Rivera

This is yet another band not completely sure of what or who they want to be. Some bands change style easily and believably. This isn’t one of them. Perhaps they feel that delving into quieter material will give them a sense of gravitas or a chance to show their versatility. Neither one of these occur during the mellow snoozers on this disc.

Dyslexic Postcards lean heavily toward the heavy and do it not as badly as they do the not heavy songs. Part of the problem is that the band doesn’t seem comfortable with or interested in the lighter songs. It’s out of place like a coherent thought in a Sarah Palin speech.

Dyslexic Postcards could be the best version of the band they already believe they are by focusing on what their good at: Being loud and not thinking too hard about it.
