Beast Make Bomb

CD: Sourpuss (2011, Self-Released)

by Carolyn Delvalle

Beast Make Bomb is the Brooklyn-based indie pop/punk brainchild that was formed by 4 NYU students in 2009. The foursome behind the magic are Ceci Gomez on vocals/rhythm guitar, Glenn Van Dyke on vocals/lead guitar, Sam Golfine on bass and Hartley Lewis on drums. They have toured all over the country including in major showcases at CMJ & SXSW.

The E.P. starts off with 1,2,3,4 which oozes with catchy punk rock guitar & drum work & quite the catchy hook. This is followed by Coney Island which showcases more of their pop influences from the slower progression to the softer vocals from Ceci. When I first heard this song, it sounded like something I have heard on tv before. I am unsure if it has been but if not, it definitely should be.

Rough It Out is the 3rd track which takes cue from the opener with its catchy guitar & vocals. The finale Party Monster is the shortest track on the EP but that does not mean it is lacking in the kick ass department. It is a good fusion of their pop & punk influences. It reminds me of the nights I go to a show knowing I will have a great time although not having any idea what to expect out of the whole night.
